I first came across the Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Claire when picking baby names a few years ago. For a boy, we wanted Colby. For a girl, I wanted Claire. After a quick internet search, I saw that Claire was the name of the title character in a newish YA vampire series. As a fan of all blood-sucking fiction, I ordered a copy of the first book in the series, The Glass House, and started to read.
Twelve hours later, I was done with the first and ordering all the rest as fast as Amazon would let me!
Claire is 16, but has finished high school and is ready for the Ivy leagues. But her parents, worried about their innocent young daughter's virtue, send her to a small college in Texas instead. There she is met with Mean Girls: the College Years and is desperate to move away from the coeds who torture her daily. This is when she discovers a room is for rent in the Glass house. Here her Morganville native roommates fill her in on a little secret about the hum-drum college town - it is run by vampires. Will Claire survive? Will she fall in love with her video game-obsessed roommate? Will her moody musician landlord ever leave the house?
If I had one complaint, it is that these books are heavy on the action, but a little lacking in character development. But, if you bring a creative mind, they will bring the drama!
